Wreaths Across America at Old First Cemetery – December 13
On December 13, volunteers across the nation will join Wreaths Across America to honor our Veterans by placing wreaths on their graves. Here in Elizabeth, we will gather at Old First Cemetery—one of the most historically significant burial grounds in New Jersey—to remember those who served and ensure their stories live on.
We are inviting residents, families, youth groups, civic organizations, faith partners, and community leaders to help place wreaths and participate in this meaningful moment of remembrance. No experience is needed and all ages are welcome.

Honoring Our Veterans at Old First Cemetery
Old First Cemetery is one of the earliest burial grounds in the state, with Veterans representing multiple eras of American history. Joining this ceremony connects Elizabeth residents to more than two centuries of service and sacrifice, right here in the Birthplace of New Jersey.
This event supports the mission of GoElizabethNJ250: spotlighting Elizabeth’s legacy, elevating community engagement, and honoring the people who shaped America.
Volunteers Needed
We are looking for volunteers to help place wreaths, assist families, and support the ceremony. This is a great opportunity for:
- Families and youth
- Schools and student groups
- Faith communities
- Veterans’ organizations and service clubs
- Neighborhood associations and community leaders
Dress warmly, wear comfortable, sturdy shoes, and be prepared for outdoor conditions. Wreaths and supplies will be provided on site.
